The facility consist of dry and wet laboratories for marine and terrestrial biological research, an optical calibration (darkroom) laboratory, direct sun calibration possibilities at the radiation observatory with UV/VIS-spectrometers, UV/UVB-radiometers, sun-photometers, absolute cavity and broadband radiometers, radiation budget measurements, standard meteorological measurements, etc.
Research programmes concentrate on surface energy balance and radiation budget studies, spectral albedo measurements of snow and ice, remote sensing and satellite validation, UV/UVB-radiation and biological effective UV-doses, marine and terrestrial biological effect studies, marine ecological studies in arctic glacial fjords.
