The facility consists of groundbased remote sensing instruments and balloon launching equipment: multi-wavelength aerosol and ozone lidar, Fourier-Transform- and UV/VIS spectrometers, photometers, a digital multi-channel radiosounding system for various applications.
Research programmes concentrate on the state and variations in the stratospheric ozone layer, stratospheric and tropospheric aerosols, tropospheric ozone chemistry, stratospheric-tropospheric exchange processes and related research.
